Macbeth Book Dust Jacket

What first started as a 24 hour comic challenge, turned into a screen print, and then repurposed into a book cover. Currently short-listed in the New Talent Book Covers Category in the AOI’s World Illustration Awards 2021.

The idea of the Macbeth cover started back in 2019 when I took part in a 24 hour overnight comic challenge at the University of Plymouth. I decided on the day that I’d use a pre-existing text for the 24 page comic, and settled on using the Witches from Macbeth, specifically Act 1.

I enjoyed the designs of the three witches from the comic, and decided to turn them into a screen print (see below). From the grey arch surrounding the witches and their varying heights, it looked like an involuntry skull shape. I used this idea and developed it more graphically - I simplified the designs down, used bolder shapes and minimal colours and added a title.
