The Mourning Papers
A broadsheet newspaper created for my Final Major Project, a collection of people’s memories around people they’ve lost and things they’ve missed.
My FMP began when I did my dissertation on Jayde Perkin’s grief graphic memoir “I’m Not Ready”, and it allowed me to start grieving my dad 12 years after he died. I decided to focus my project into 3 main areas of grief:
LOSS AND CLOSURE, GRIEF AND THE BODY and GRIEF AND MEMORIES
LOSS OF CLOSURE: For this title page, I wanted to highlight how loss of closure - or ambiguous loss - can make it seem like everything and everyone is carrying on whilst you feel empty and without purpose.

GRIEF AND THE BODY: I created this title page with the first grief comic I made in mind - it focusses on how grief is a seed that is a seed that’s germinated and is now sprouting after 12 years.

GRIEF AND MEMORIES: This title page was important to me as I can’t remember much of my dad, so my memories of him are treasured; I wanted to reflect that in this drawing by having all of these memories being carried up a rocky terrain.
